Failed the Georgia permit test? What happens next
Failing a part of the knowledge exam happens, and you can try again soon. Here are the retake rules and what to do differently this time.

What happens now
- Which part
- You retake only the part you failed: Road Signs or Road Rules.Source: Manual section 3, Testing information, page 13
- After a first fail
- You can retake that part the next day.Source: Manual section 3, Testing information, page 13
- After a second fail
- You wait 7 days before the next try.Source: Manual section 3, Testing information, page 13
- Fee
- $10 again before every attempt.Source: Manual section 2, Obtaining a license or permit, page 8
What to change before your next try
- Write down what caught you out while you still remember: which part, which topics, and which kinds of question.
- Answer questions instead of rereading. Practicing with questions and reading why each wrong answer is wrong helps more than going over the manual again.
- Check yourself on wordings you haven't seen. The real exam may ask a rule in a different way from any practice test.
- Go over the numbers. Distances, limits, ages and points are easy to mix up. Each topic below has them.
