When may you keep driving past a school bus that has its red lights flashing?
Ready Plan: $14.99 once, never renews. See what's in it
For first-time drivers of any age. It runs in your browser, so there's nothing to install.
Better to get these wrong here than at the MVA.
The first 3 questions warm you up. The other 17 come from the parts of the manual people mix up, like 300 vs 500 feet for your high beams.

How the Ready Plan knows you're ready
A few short levels a day, planned around your test date.
Ready Check
A topic shows Ready only after you get it right in two wordings you haven't seen. A right answer straight after reading the explanation doesn't count.
Book your test when all 9 topics show Ready.
5 of 9 topics are Ready.
Mistake Replay
Miss a question and it comes back later in new words. It leaves your list only after you get it right on two different days.
Example. On Tuesday, in a level, you miss a parking question: which no-parking distance is 20 feet. You picked a fire hydrant; the answer is a crosswalk. On Wednesday Mistake Replay asks the same rule in new words, and you get it right. On Thursday it asks again in other words, you get it right again, and the rule clears from your list: 20 ft: crosswalk.

Is the free test really free?
Yes. All 20 questions, your score and every answer, with no email and no card.
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $14.99 once. Nothing renews, so there's nothing to cancel, and your plan stays open.
How do refunds work?

I'm under 18. Can my parent pay?
Yes. Under the pay button, tap "Someone else paying? Send them a link". They pay from their own phone, and your progress stays with you. What parents see
What if I fail the real test?
Nothing more to pay. Your plan stays open for good and a retake plan opens. Failed already? Get a retake plan
Is this the official MVA test?
No. We're an independent study site with no connection to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. You take the real knowledge test at an MVA location.
Are these the real test questions?
No. The MVA doesn't publish its real test. We write our own from the Maryland Driver's Manual and ask each rule several ways, because the real test may word it differently.
Why is your test so hard?
On purpose. After three warm-ups it's all rules people mix up, so every miss points at something worth studying.
How long does it take?
The free test takes about 5 minutes. The plan fits the days you have left before your test.
Is it different if I'm 18 or older?
The test is the same: 25 questions in 20 minutes. What changes is the rest of the path: from 25 you need 14 practice hours (3 at night) and hold the permit 45 days; at 19 to 24 (or 18 with a diploma or GED) you hold it 3 months.

Who's Flamo?
Me, the flame in the logo. When I read questions aloud, you're hearing your browser's text-to-speech voice. I'd take the test for you, but I'm a cartoon. I can tell you when you're ready, though, and not a day early.
The Maryland permit test in numbers
The rules for getting your permit
- The test
- 25 questions, and you have 20 minutes. You take it at an MVA location, by appointment.
- To pass
- The manual doesn't give a pass mark. Ask the MVA, and aim to know every topic.
- Your permit
- You need to pass a vision screening and the knowledge test. The permit lasts up to 2 years.
- Under 18, you also need
- To be at least 15 years and 9 months old, and a parent or legal guardian to co-sign. Under 16, the DL-300 school attendance form too.
- Driving on your permit
- Only with a supervising driver at least 21, licensed at least 3 years, in the seat beside you.
- Before your provisional license
- Finish driver education and log 60 practice hours, 10 of them at night. Under 18, hold the permit 9 months without a violation.
- With a provisional license, under 18
- No unsupervised driving from midnight to 5 a.m. except for work, school, volunteer or sports trips. For the first 151 days, no passengers under 18 unless they're family or a qualified supervising driver is with you.
From the Maryland Driver's Manual (December 2025), read on October 24, 2026: Section 1, Driving tests requirements, Section 2, Licensing requirements and process, Section 9, Restrictions and Section 10, Supervising driver.
