At a rotary, who goes first?
Ready Plan: $14.99 once, never renews. See what's in it
For first-time drivers of any age. It runs in your browser, so there's nothing to install.
Better to get these wrong here than at the RMV.
The first 3 questions warm you up. The other 17 come from the parts of the manual people mix up, like 200 vs 500 feet or 10 vs 20 feet.

How the Ready Plan knows you're ready
A few short levels a day, planned around your test date.
Ready Check
A topic shows Ready only after you get it right in two wordings you haven't seen. A right answer straight after reading the explanation doesn't count.
Book your test when all 9 topics show Ready.
5 of 9 topics are Ready.
Mistake Replay
Miss a question and it comes back later in new words. It leaves your list only after you get it right on two different days.
Example. On Tuesday, in a level, you miss a parking question: which no-parking distance is 20 feet. You picked a fire hydrant; the answer is a crosswalk. On Wednesday Mistake Replay asks the same rule in new words, and you get it right. On Thursday it asks again in other words, you get it right again, and the rule clears from your list: 20 ft: crosswalk.

No. You pay $14.99 once. Nothing renews, so there's nothing to cancel, and your plan stays open.
How do refunds work?

I'm under 18. Can my parent pay?
Yes. Under the pay button, tap "Someone else paying? Send them a link". They pay from their own phone, and your progress stays with you. What parents see
What if I fail the real test?
Nothing more to pay. Your plan stays open for good and a retake plan opens. Failed already? Get a retake plan
Is this the official RMV test?
No. We're an independent study site with no connection to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. You take the real learner's permit exam through the RMV, at a Service Center or online after your visit.
Are these the real test questions?
No. We write our own from the Massachusetts Driver's Manual and ask each rule several ways, because the real exam may word it differently.
Why is your test so hard?
On purpose. After three warm-ups it's all rules people mix up, so every miss points at something worth studying.
How long does it take?
The free test takes about 5 minutes. The plan fits the days you have left before your test.
Is it different if I'm 18 or older?
The exam is the same: 18 of 25 in 25 minutes. From 18 you don't need a parent's signature, and the Junior Operator rules (driver education, the 6 months with a permit before the road test, the passenger and night limits) stop applying.

Who's Flamo?
Me, the flame in the logo. When I read questions aloud, you're hearing your browser's text-to-speech voice. I'd take the test for you, but I'm a cartoon. I can tell you when you're ready, though, and not a day early.
The Massachusetts permit test in numbers
The rules for getting your permit
- The exam
- 25 multiple-choice questions. You need 18 right within 25 minutes, about a minute a question.
- Where
- At an RMV Service Center when you hand in your application, or online at Mass.Gov/RMV after that visit.
- The fee
- $30 for the exam. If you fail, you pay it again for the next exam.
- Under 18, you also need
- To be at least 16, and a parent or guardian to sign the back of your application.
- Driving on your permit
- Only with a licensed driver at least 21, with a year of driving experience, in the seat beside you. Under 18, not between midnight and 5 a.m. unless a parent or guardian is with you.
- Your license at 16½
- Hold the permit 6 months with a clean record, finish driver education and log 40 hours of supervised driving before the road test.
- With a Junior Operator License
- No driving from 12:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. unless a parent or guardian is with you. For the first 6 months, no passengers under 18 other than immediate family, unless a qualified adult sits beside you.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual (revised April 2026), read on October 24, 2026: Chapter 1, Obtaining your license (pages 3, 9 to 10 and 14 to 18) and the fees on pages 31 and 32.
