Practice question · Safety and the law

Under Joshua's Law, how many hours of practice driving must a teen log, and how many at night?

The rule

To get a Class D at 16 or 17, finish DDS-approved driver education (30 hours of class or an online course, plus 6 hours with a certified instructor or the Parent/Teen Driving Guide), log at least 40 hours of driving with 6 at night, and complete ADAP.

Besides driver education, a 16- or 17-year-old needs at least 40 hours of driving experience, including 6 hours at night.

From the Georgia Drivers' Manual, page 8. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DDS have the final word.
