Six complaints from permit app reviews, and our answer to each

  1. "Why would you say it's a free app when really is a free trial"

1,744 reviews complain about price, paywalls or subscriptions. YouTube comment under a permit app's sponsored video.
You pay $14.99 once. There's no trial and nothing renews, so there's nothing to cancel.
  2. "I got 100% on their exam 3 times and failed the act[ual test]"

150 reviewers blamed an app after failing the real test. App Store review of a permit test app, 2026.
A topic only shows Ready after you get it right in wording you haven't seen. Memorized answers don't count.
Four more complaints, answered
  1. "I aced every practice test… didn't recognize half the questions. I did not pass."

49 reviews say the practice questions didn't match the real test. Google Play review of a permit test app, 2026.
When you miss a question, it comes back later worded differently, until you get it right.
  2. "I realized I was correct and the app was wrong."

264 reviews report wrong answers. App Store review of a permit test app.
Every explanation links to the manual page it comes from, so you can check us. If we got one wrong, tap Report and we'll fix it.
  3. "there's so many ads you never actually get an opportunity to study anything"

897 reviews complain about ads. Google Play review of a permit test app, 2026.
We don't run ads. The $14.99 plan is how we make money.
  4. "please, for the love of God, don't lock everything behind a paywall!"

165 reviews complain about a paywall in the middle of a test. App Store review of a permit test app.
You see your whole score and every answer for free, without giving us an email.

How the Ready Plan knows you're ready

A few short levels a day, planned around your test date.

Ready Check

A topic shows Ready only after you get it right in two wordings you haven't seen. A right answer straight after reading the explanation doesn't count.

Mistake Replay

Miss a question and it comes back later in new words. It leaves your list only after you get it right on two different days.

Mistake ReplayExample, not your results

Example. On Tuesday, in a level, you miss a parking question: which no-parking distance is 20 feet. You picked a fire hydrant; the answer is a crosswalk. On Wednesday Mistake Replay asks the same rule in new words, and you get it right. On Thursday it asks again in other words, you get it right again, and the rule clears from your list: 20 ft: crosswalk.

What if I fail the real test?

Nothing more to pay. Your plan stays open for good and a retake plan opens. Failed already? Get a retake plan

Is this the official RMV test?

No. We're an independent study site with no connection to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. You take the real learner's permit exam through the RMV, at a Service Center or online after your visit.

Are these the real test questions?

No. We write our own from the Massachusetts Driver's Manual and ask each rule several ways, because the real exam may word it differently.

Why is your test so hard?

On purpose. After three warm-ups it's all rules people mix up, so every miss points at something worth studying.

How long does it take?

The free test takes about 5 minutes. The plan fits the days you have left before your test.

Is it different if I'm 18 or older?

The exam is the same: 18 of 25 in 25 minutes. From 18 you don't need a parent's signature, and the Junior Operator rules (driver education, the 6 months with a permit before the road test, the passenger and night limits) stop applying.

Who's Flamo?

Me, the flame in the logo. When I read questions aloud, you're hearing your browser's text-to-speech voice. I'd take the test for you, but I'm a cartoon. I can tell you when you're ready, though, and not a day early.
