When you make a right turn, which lane of the new road should you turn into?
The rule
For a right turn, keep as far right as you can, don't swing wide, and turn into the right lane unless signs say otherwise. For a left turn from a one-way road into a one-way road, use the left lane and, if the new road has two lanes, turn into its left lane.
For a right turn, get as far right as you can, avoid wide sweeping turns, and turn into the right lane unless signs direct you otherwise.
From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 36. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
