What does a curb painted white mean?
The rule
A white painted curb generally means: stop only as long as it takes to pick up or drop off passengers. The locality sets the exact meaning.
A curb painted white is for quick passenger stops: pull up, let people in or out, and go. Yellow is for loading with you staying with the car; red is no stopping.
From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 2, page 13. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
