Which headlights should you use in fog, rain or falling snow?
The rule
High beams bounce off falling rain, fog and snow and make it harder to see, so keep your headlights on low beam in those conditions.
In fog, rain or falling snow, use low beams. High beams reflect back at you and cut your view.
From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 63. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
