Practice question · Signals and lights

At what distance from an oncoming car must you switch from high beams to low beams?

The rule

Switch to low beams once an oncoming vehicle is 500 feet away; don't wait until it is closer.

Dim your high beams when an oncoming vehicle is 500 feet away. Use low beams when you follow a car less than 200 feet behind it.

From the SCDMV Driver's License Manual, pages 11-1 to 11-2. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
