Why the signs part matters most
- The rule
- Part one has 10 traffic sign questions. You must answer all 10 correctly before you can take part two.Source: Manual section 1, Testing, page 3
- Shapes
- Eight sides: stop. Triangle: yield. Diamond: warning. Five sides: school zone or crossing. Rectangle: rules or guidance.Source: Manual section 2, Sign shapes, pages 6 and 7
- Colors
- Red with white: stop, yield, do not, no. Black with white: rules. Yellow with black: warning. Orange: construction. Pink: incidents. Green, blue and brown: guidance.Source: Manual section 2, Sign colors, page 6
- A Virginia twist
- A No Left Turn sign also bans U-turns, because Virginia counts a U-turn as two left turns.Source: Manual section 2, Regulatory signs, page 7
