Your baby is 1 year old. How should she ride in the car?
The rule
Babies should face the rear from birth to age 2, or as long as the seat maker allows. A rear-facing seat may go in the front passenger seat only if the vehicle has no back seat and its passenger air bag is off or missing.
From birth to age 2, or as long as the seat's maker allows, children should ride in a rear-facing child seat.
From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 4, page 27. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
