Where is an open alcohol container illegal to have while you drive?

The rule

It's illegal to have an open alcohol container in the passenger area while you drive: the seats and anywhere the driver or passengers can easily reach. A six-pack with an open, empty or missing can counts.

An open alcohol container in the passenger area is illegal. That means the seats and any spot the driver or a passenger can easily reach.

From the Maryland Driver's Manual, Section 6, page 33. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the MVA have the final word.
