Your car starts to hydroplane on a wet highway. What should you do?
The rule
If you hydroplane, take your foot off the gas, don't brake, keep the car going straight and slow down until you regain control. Good tires and lower speeds on wet roads help prevent it.
If you start to hydroplane, take your foot off the gas, don't brake, keep the car straight and slow down until you regain control.
From the Maryland Driver's Manual, Section 5, page 30. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the MVA have the final word.
