Which drink holds about the same amount of alcohol as a 12-ounce beer?
The rule
A 12-ounce beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine and a 1.5-ounce serving of 80-proof liquor each hold about 1/2 ounce of alcohol, enough to push an average person's BAC up by about 0.02. Only time removes alcohol.
A 12-ounce beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine and 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor each hold about the same amount of alcohol.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 72. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
