You're 30 with no prior OUI. After an OUI arrest, you refuse a breath test. How long is your license suspended?
The rule
Refusing a chemical test brings a suspension even without a conviction: over 21 with no prior OUI, 180 days; one prior, 3 years; two, 5 years; three or more, lifetime. Drivers under 21 get longer periods.
Over 21 with no prior OUI, refusing a chemical test means a 180-day suspension. It grows with each prior offense, up to lifetime.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 70. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
