An officer suspects you of DUI and asks for a chemical test. You refuse. What will DMV do?

The rule

If you refuse a chemical test when an officer suspects DUI, DMV will suspend or revoke your license for one year.

If you refuse a blood, breath or urine test when an officer suspects DUI, DMV will take away your license for one year by suspension or revocation.

From the California Driver Handbook, section 9, page 72. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
