The rule
In a multi-lane rotary with no lane signs, a U-turn or three-quarter turn starts in the left lane, goes around in the middle or inner lane, and ends in the right lane. From a one-lane road, use the right lane the whole way.
In a multi-lane rotary with no signs, a U-turn or three-quarter turn starts in the left lane, circles in the inner lane, and ends in the right lane.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 101. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
