Practice question · Right of way

Your light is green, but a police officer in the intersection signals you to stop. What do you do?

The rule

A traffic officer's directions come first: obey them even when they differ from signs, signals or road markings. In a work zone, follow the police officer or civil flagger.

Obey a traffic officer's directions every time, even when a sign, signal or road marking says something else.

From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 87. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
