No speed sign is posted. What is the maximum speed on an unpaved road?

The rule

Unless a sign shows a different limit, the top speed on an unpaved road is 35 mph.

Unless a sign says otherwise, unpaved roads have a 35 mph limit. School, business and residential areas are 25; other roads are 55.

From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 3, page 15. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
