You reach a flashing red light at a railroad crossing, and you see no train. What must you do?
The rule
At a railroad crossing with a flashing red light, stop completely even if no train is in sight, and go only after the light stops flashing and the way is clear.
At a railroad crossing, a flashing red light means a complete stop, even if no train is in sight.
From the Maryland Driver's Manual, Section 4, page 18. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the MVA have the final word.
