YIELD

What does this sign tell you to do?

The rule

At a yield sign, slow down, look both ways, let pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles go first, and go on only when it is safe.

A YIELD sign means slow down and be ready to stop. Let any car, bike rider or person on foot go before you, then continue.

From the Maryland Driver's Manual, Section 4, page 21. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the MVA have the final word.
