To cross a broken yellow line to pass, how far ahead must you be able to see clearly?
The rule
Before you cross a broken yellow line to pass, you need a clear view of at least 400 feet ahead. Passing never allows going over the speed limit.
Before crossing a broken yellow line to pass, make sure your view ahead is clear for 400 feet or more.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 103. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
