On a two-way road, what is a center left-turn lane for?
The rule
Some two-way roads have a center lane that drivers from both directions share for left turns. Use it to make your turn, never to drive along.
A center left-turn lane is shared by drivers going both ways who want to turn left. It isn't a travel lane or a passing lane.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 98. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
