Practice question · Lanes and turns

Before changing lanes, what should you do after checking your mirrors?

The rule

Before you change lanes, look in your mirrors for traffic behind, turn to check the blind spot on the side you're moving toward, signal, then move: look, signal, move.

Check your mirrors, then look over your shoulder toward the lane you want. Mirrors don't show your blind spots.

From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 93. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
