Before changing lanes, what should you do after checking your mirrors?
The rule
Before changing lanes, signal (the law requires it), check your mirrors, then turn your head to check the blind spot on the side you're moving to.
Signal, check your mirrors, then look over your shoulder toward the lane you want. Mirrors don't show your blind spots.
From the Official Florida Driver License Handbook, page 69. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
