From which lane may you make a U-turn?
The rule
A U-turn is allowed when your path is clear and it's safe, unless a NO U-TURN sign is posted. Turn from the lane nearest the center line, with room to finish without creating a hazard.
Make a U-turn only from the lane nearest the center line, and only when the way is clear and the turn is safe.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 98. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
