What is this center lane for?
The rule
On a two-way road with a shared center lane, drivers coming from both directions may use it to turn left, and nobody may use it to pass. On a three-lane or five-lane highway, the middle lane is for left turns only.
A center turn lane is for left turns by drivers from both directions. It isn't a travel lane or a passing lane.
From the Official Florida Driver License Handbook, page 45. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
