Practice question · Safety and the law

A junior operator breaks the passenger or night restriction for the first time. What is the suspension?

The rule

Breaking the JOL passenger or night restriction means a 60-day suspension the first time, 180 days the second and one year after that. Second and later offenses also require a Driver Attitudinal Retraining course.

A first passenger or night-rule violation brings a 60-day suspension. A second: 180 days. After that: one year.

From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 11. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
