After you parallel park, how far from the curb may your wheels be?

The rule

When you finish parallel parking, your wheels may be no farther than one foot from the curb.

When you finish parallel parking, your wheels must be within one foot of the curb. If you're farther out, pull forward and back up to get closer.

From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 42. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
