Practice question · Right of way

When must you yield to a blind pedestrian with a guide dog or white cane?

The rule

A blind pedestrian with a white or metal cane or a guide dog has the right of way when crossing at any crosswalk, marked or unmarked, even when signals or other rules are against them.

A special law gives blind pedestrians with a white or metal cane or a guide dog the right of way at marked or unmarked crosswalks, even against the signals.

From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 67. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
