Practice question · Right of way

Two drivers coming from opposite directions arrive at an intersection at about the same time. One is turning left. Who must yield?

The rule

When drivers from opposite directions arrive at about the same time, the one turning left yields to traffic going straight or turning right. On any left turn, yield to oncoming traffic close enough to be a hazard.

When drivers from opposite directions arrive at about the same time, the driver turning left yields to traffic going straight or turning right.

From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 34. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
