A motorcycle rides near the left edge of a wide lane. Can you pull up beside it in the same lane?

The rule

A motorcycle gets the same full lane width as any other vehicle. Never move into its lane space, even when the lane is wide and the rider is off to one side.

Give a motorcycle the same full lane width as any other vehicle. Never share its lane, even when the lane is wide and the rider keeps to one side.

From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 39. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
