Never share a lane with a motorcycle

A motorcycle is ahead of you in your lane. Can you pass it without changing lanes?
The rule
A motorcycle has the right to its whole lane: never drive into its lane space, even if it rides to one side. Riders, for their part, may not weave between lanes.
Motorcycles have the same right to the full width of a lane. Never move into a motorcycle's lane space; change lanes to pass when it's safe.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 51. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
