A trolley is stopped, letting passengers on and off. How close may you drive to its passenger step?
The rule
Don't drive closer than 8 feet to a trolley's passenger step while it is letting people on or off. Look for trolleys before crossing tracks, and never turn in front of one: it can't swerve.
While a trolley lets passengers on or off, stay at least 8 feet away from its passenger step.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 107. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
