Compared with a car, how much distance may a large truck need to stop?

The rule

A large truck may need about twice the distance a car needs to stop, and more on wet or icy roads. Never pull in front of one and then slow down or stop suddenly.

A large truck may need about double a car's stopping distance, and even more on wet or icy roads.

From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 47. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
