Practice question · Sharing the road

A school bus ahead is stopped with red lights flashing and its stop sign out. What must you do?

The rule

When a school bus or school pupil transport vehicle has its red lights flashing and stop sign out, stop, whichever side of the road you're on, until the lights stop and the sign folds back. A first violation can mean $250 and a suspension.

Flashing red lights on a school bus mean stop, from either side of the road. Stay stopped until the lights stop or the stop sign folds back.

From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 105. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
