A school bus ahead is stopped with its red lights flashing. What's the closest you may stop behind it?

The rule

When a school bus is stopped with flashing red lights, stop at least 20 feet from it, behind or in front, and wait until it moves or turns off the red lights.

Stop at least 20 feet from a school bus that has its red lights flashing, and stay put until it moves or turns the lights off.

From the Maryland Driver's Manual, Section 7, page 38. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the MVA have the final word.
