A school bus ahead is stopped with red lights flashing. What must you do?
The rule
Stop for a school bus that has stopped with red lights flashing and its stop sign out, whichever way you're coming, on a public road, a private road or a school driveway. Stay stopped until everyone is clear and the bus moves again. Stop also if it is loading or unloading with its signals off.
Flashing red lights and a stop sign on a school bus mean stop, from any direction. Stay stopped until everyone is clear and the bus moves again.
From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 3, page 15. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
