An ambulance with its siren and lights on is going your way ahead of you. When may you pass it?

The rule

If an emergency vehicle with its siren and lights on is going the same way as you, stay behind it. You may pass only if it has stopped or an officer says you can.

You may not pass an emergency vehicle going your way with its signals on, unless it has stopped or an officer waves you past.

From the Maryland Driver's Manual, Section 7, page 37. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the MVA have the final word.
