The law requires headlights from half an hour after sunset until when?
The rule
Headlights are required from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise, when you can see less than 1,000 feet, and when you use wipers for rain, snow or sleet. Parking lights and daytime running lights don't count.
By law, headlights must be on from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise. They are also required when you can see less than 1,000 feet.
From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 63. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
