Between which times must your headlights be on?
The rule
Headlights must be on from sunset to sunrise, and in rain, fog, snow or sleet when you can see only 500 feet or less.
Headlights are required from sunset until sunrise. Turn them on as soon as the light begins to fade.
From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 3, page 23. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
