Practice question · Right of way

A crosswalk has no painted lines. Do pedestrians in it have the right of way?

The rule

Pedestrians have the right of way in a crosswalk whether or not it is painted with lines.

Not all crosswalks are painted. In a marked or unmarked crosswalk, the pedestrian has the right of way.

From the California Driver Handbook, section 7, page 41. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
