Your car stalls on the tracks and a train is coming. Which way should you run?
The rule
If your vehicle stalls on railroad tracks and a train is coming or the warning lights are flashing, get out right away and run away from the tracks at an angle, toward the side the train is coming from, and call 911 once you are safe. If no train is coming and no lights are flashing, get out and call the number posted at the crossing.
Get out at once and run away from the tracks at an angle, toward the side the train is coming from. Call 911 when you are safe.
From the California Driver Handbook, section 8, page 70. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
