What does the red circle and slash on this sign mean?
The rule
A red circle with a red line across it means the action pictured inside, such as a left turn or a U-turn, is not allowed.
A red circle with a red line through a picture means you may not do what is shown. This sign means no left turn.
From the California Driver Handbook, section 7, page 38. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
