STOP

What must you do when you come to this sign?

The rule

A STOP sign means you must bring your vehicle to a complete stop every time, then check for traffic in all directions before you move on.

A STOP sign always means a full stop. Once stopped, look for cars, bikes and people in every direction, and go only when it is safe.

From the California Driver Handbook, section 7, page 35. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
