STOP

What must you do when you come to this sign?

The rule

The eight-sided STOP sign always means a complete stop, at the sign, the stop line, the crosswalk or the curb. Let any vehicle or person clear the way before you go on.

A STOP sign always means a full stop. Then wait until any vehicles and pedestrians have cleared the way before you go.

From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 2, page 6. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
