STOP

What must you do when you come to this sign?

The rule

An eight-sided (octagon) sign is always a STOP sign: you must come to a complete stop.

A STOP sign always means a full stop. Once stopped, look for cars, bikes and people in every direction, and go only when it is safe.

From the Maryland Driver's Manual, Section 4, page 20. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the MVA have the final word.
