What must you do when you come to this sign?
The rule
A STOP sign means a complete stop, every time, for every vehicle. Then yield to people and traffic, and go on carefully. Slowing down is not enough.
A STOP sign always means a full stop. Once stopped, look for cars, bikes and people in every direction, and go only when it is safe.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 86. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
