A crossing signal warns that a train is coming. Where must you stop?
The rule
When a crossing signal flashes, the gates are down, a flagman signals, a train is near or a STOP sign is posted, stop within 50 feet of the nearest rail but no closer than 15 feet.
When a crossing warns of a train, stop no more than 50 feet from the nearest rail and no closer than 15 feet. Then wait until it is safe.
From the Georgia Drivers' Manual, page 21. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DDS have the final word.
