When you pass a bicyclist in your lane, what's the least space you may leave?

The rule

When you pass a bicyclist, keep at least 3 feet between your vehicle and the bicycle the whole time.

Give a bicyclist at least 3 feet the whole time you pass. If you can't give 3 feet, stay behind until you can.

From the Georgia Drivers' Manual, page 42. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DDS have the final word.
